The effects of foreign language learning strategies and cognitive behaviors of students on their success in foreign language learning Yabancı dil öğrenme stratejilerinin ve bilişsel giriş davranışlarının öğrenci başarısı üzerindeki etkileri
ABSTRACT This study aims to determine and analyze the relationship between language learning strategies and success of students. It also aims to determine and investigate the relationship between language learning styles and students success. In order to examine the effects of both learning strategies and styles a questionnaire is administrated to 355 2nd,3rd and 4th grade students at Selçuk University, Faculty of Education, Language Teaching Department. In the first chapter, the background to the study, statement of the problem and purpose of the study are presented. The second chapter deals with the review of the literature related to the matter in question. This part focuses on the definitions of the language learning strategy and styles types. This chapter also includes different variables which affect the learning strategy and style use. In the third chapter, the role of language learning strategies in four skills is examined. Suitable strategies for learning skills are indicated. The fourth chapter gives different definitions and classifications of different methodologists. It also indicates that how learning strategies are taught. In the last chapter, the information related to the statistical study is given. The data collection, data analysis, variables, and participants (subjects) take part here. In the end, the results of the study are given through interpretation of tables. In “conclusion”, the findings of this study, suggestions for teachers and learners about effects of language learning strategy and style are presented.
