SUMMARY Today, thoracolomber vertebral fractures can be seen frequently with many different etiological factors. in the treatment of these fractures, the objectives are anatomic reduction, decompression of the spinal canal, stabile fixation and early mobilisation. Between 1994 – 2000, in SSK Ankara Educational Hospital l.st Clinic of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, we have 252 thoracolomber fractures, which were treated by posterior spinal instrumentation and fusion. in the study, 50 of them were retrospectively reviewed. The objective of this study is to deternıine the effect of canal remodelling (ligamentotaxis) in the patients who were managed by only posterior spinal instrumentation and fusion. CT images were digitaiized and the measurements were made in Autocad 2000. SPSS 10.0 for Windows was used for statistical analyses. in the light of this study, there is a statistically expressive decompression of spinal canal by ligamentotaxis. This method is the first and reliable öne for evaluating canal compronıise in thoracolomber spinal fractures.
